We're Going Postal

We went to an auction this fall at a business that was closing in downtown Sturgeon. They used to make lock boxes from disassembled old postal boxes. One of us looked at a skid of glass from that auction and thought, "Those would make a cool backsplash." Isn't that what you would think!

So, when Charles went to pay the water bill (no online bill pay here. You need to walk the bill in or put it in the mail to find out what is going on in town) and struck up a conversation with the man writing up receipts, he found out that the man working in the office bought the old building. He came home and the first question out of my mouth was...are the glass tiles still there. A phone call revealed that they are and that we could have how ever many we wanted for the project. So we went for a free tour of the building and heard all abut wat he wants to do with the old building(it is close in age to our house) and walked out with five boxes of these old mail box glasses. (with a promise to invite him over when the backsplash is complete!)

First we scraped off the numbers, then a little cleaning and we laid them out and painted the backs with a hammered copper spray paint. You will have to wait a week to see what they look like up...but I think they will be amazing!
